Our CDL testers abide by the rules and regulations of the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators. The rules and regulations are enforced by the Federal DOT Compliance, the Colorado Department of Transportation and Colorado Department of Revenue.

CDL Tests: Class A, B, and C tests are $275.00 statewide

Hourly pre-trip inspection training is available before a test – call for details.

ATTENTION!!! Testing procedures have changed as of February 7, 2022: All persons getting their CDLLicense must receive training from a Registered Training Provider. The Northern Colorado Truck Driving Academy is a Registered Training Provider. Click here for more details.

NCTDA is testing with the  Model 11 and Model 12 testing format. Please study from the latest CDL Manual for details! 

If you do not follow the above requirements, testing will have to be cancelled due to strict compliance rules.

ARRIVING FOR CDL TEST

REMEMBER: When arriving for your scheduled test, be sure to show up early. We have firm start times – no exceptions. 

If testing in Fort Collins, CO, the testing site is located at: 1800 Airway Ave., Fort Collins, CO 80524. Follow the yellow signs on the runway to the northwest end of the runway and check in with your tester ASAP.

CDL REQUIREMENTS

THIS IS a Federal Test, treat it as such. Come prepared and study the 2023 CDL Manual, don’t watch YouTube and expect to pass. The videos are outdated or from an entirely different state. 

Requirements to schedule a CDL Test: (check all expiration dates before calling to schedule)

  • A Valid Medical DOT Exam card / certificate
  • A Valid Driver’s License
  • A Valid CDL Permit with the Correct Endorsements
  • Show Up, Be On Time, and Bring All of the Valid Requirements

*The Permit and Drivers License must be from the same state.
*Per Colorado, your permit must 14 days old before a drive test can be administered. *If you are providing the CMV, a valid registration is required for both truck and trailer or truck.

Your test will be CANCELLED if:

  • Any of the above documents have expired or been stamped VOID
  • You are more than 10 minutes late for your test
  • You don’t bring in all the credentials required to test

If your test is cancelled, you will be charged a $125.00 Rescheduling Fee in order to reschedule your test. This fee must be paid BEFORE we reschedule. If you have to cancel your test, you must give us 3 da notice or the rescheduling fee will be applied.

REMINDER: This is a Federal Test and will be conducted as a Federal Test. No exceptions!

VEHICLE REQUIREMENTS

  • Your vehicle must be the correct GVWR. Click here to find out if your vehicle does.
  • The vehicles you test in MUST be empty. A fl at bed must be swept off and a tanker must be empty and purged clean.
  • If you test in a tanker vehicle, you must have a tanker endorsement. Any placards that indicate hazardous materials must be covered.
  • To take a Passenger or School Bus CDL B test, you must have a Passenger endorsement or a School Bus endorsement. The vehicle that you test in must seat 16+ passengers including the driver.
  • If you test with an Automatic truck, you will have an E (Manual) restriction on your license. You will only be able to drive Automatic trucks.

Read and study the

Pre-trip Inspection Clarification: You CANNOT use a list during the test.

  1. Know the name of the part you are inspecting.
  2. Point to or touch the item you are inspecting.
  3. Fully explain what you are inspecting.
  4. Give a majority of inspection descriptions as written in your CDL Manual to get credit.
  5. Include the Airbrake or Hydraulic Brake Check as part of the in-cab inspection.

*THE MANUAL TELLS YOU HOW TO CORRECTLY DO AN AIR BRAKE OR HYDRAULIC BRAKE TEST.
If you fail to do the Brake Check or do it incorrectly, you will automatically fail the test.

NOTE: If you rent one of our manual shifting vehicles and it is evident that you cannot shift, we reservethe right to end the test immediately for a dangerous act and the result is an automatic fail with norefund. We are not obligated to let you damage our trucks.
